Most glass railing systems use a handrail on top to help brace the glass. Craft-Bilt’s topless railing design uses the glass itself as the structural element, which means nothing interrupts the sightline from eye level to ground. How Our System Is Built
Here’s where we have to talk specifics, because not all frameless glass railing systems are the same, and the differences matter a lot when it comes to safety and longevity.
½” Tempered Glass vs. ⅜”
Many competing systems use ⅜” thick tempered glass. Craft-Bilt uses ½” thick tempered glass throughout. That extra thickness represents a measurable increase in impact resistance, rigidity, and load capacity. In a topless system where the glass is doing all the structural work, that thickness is critical.
Heavy Wall Design With Four Screw Ports
Other glass adapter systems rely on two small #8 screw ports with a stamped metal support plate. Ours uses four #10 screw ports, specially plated screws, and a ¼” thick CNC-machined aluminum support plate. The support includes an extended leg for additional vertical load support. The building code requires railings to resist both horizontal and vertical loads, and our channel is specifically designed to meet both.

Roll-In Glazing Spline: Made of premium Santoprene
The spline that holds the glass inside the channel is made from Santoprene, a high-performance thermoplastic elastomer that stays flexible through freeze-thaw cycles. We specifically chose it over cheaper alternatives because they break down under U.V. and extreme temperatures, which is a real concern for any product installed outdoors in Canada.
Available Heights: 36″ and 42″
Craft-Bilt’s Topless Glass Railing is available in both 36″ and 42″ heights to meet Canadian building code requirements:
- Decks up to 72″ (1,800mm) above grade require a minimum 36″ guard
- Decks over 72″ (1,800mm) above grade require a minimum 42″ guard
Custom heights are also available for pool fencing, privacy walls, and commercial windbreaks.
