Hamilton Decks That Don't Need Work Every Spring

GrandVista aluminum decking. Built for lake humidity and Southern Ontario freeze-thaw.

Hamilton Decking

Wood decking and the local climate are a difficult long-term combination. Lake Ontario humidity keeps the moisture content of exposed wood elevated through the summer, which means boards that were dried out through the winter absorb water and expand inconsistently. The freeze-thaw cycle that winter conditions deliver — not severe by Hamilton standards, but consistent — finishes the job on anything the humidity already weakened. Deck boards split, screws push out, and the surface needs stripping and repainting every two to three years.

GrandVista aluminum decking eliminates all of it. Aluminum doesn’t absorb moisture, so Hamilton’s lake humidity and freeze-thaw cycle don’t affect it the way they affect wood. It doesn’t split, warp, or check. There’s no surface to reseal or repaint, no boards to replace, no annual maintenance cycle.

For homeowners who’ve spent a weekend every spring on deck maintenance and don’t want to do it anymore, GrandVista is the direct answer.

Built for Lake Ontario's Climate

Water drains straight through the deck boards rather than sitting on the surface. Particularly useful for Hamilton decks over garages, walk-out lower levels, or lower patio areas where water management actually matters.

Non-Skid Surface

The textured aluminum surface stays safe underfoot year-round, through Hamilton’s wet springs, humid summers, and icy winter mornings. No rubber mats or grip tape required.

Zero Maintenance

No sanding, staining, painting, or sealing. Ever. Aluminum does not rot, warp, splinter, or fade. Once it is installed on your deck, that is the end of the maintenance conversation.

Our team is here to help! Contact us for personalized answers to your specific questions.

Q1. Is aluminum decking actually watertight through Hamilton freeze-thaw winters?

It is one of the best materials for exactly that environment. The boards lock together with a pressure-lock fulcrum joint, and each board has an integral gutter that moves water along and off the deck rather than letting it pool. There is no caulking or rubber gasket in the joint, so nothing cracks or breaks down from Hamilton’s humidity or Ontario’s freeze-thaw cycles. watertight from installation day, and it stays that way regardless of weather or age.

Q2. Will aluminum decking get too hot to stand on during summer conditions?

Less than most people expect. Our boards were independently tested in direct sunlight. The standard Desert Sand and Grey colours reflect heat rather than absorbing it, running at surface temperatures comparable to composite decking on a hot Ontario afternoon. Bare feet on a typical Hamilton summer day are fine.

Q3. How does aluminum decking hold up against winter conditions compared to wood or composite?

Wood decks in this climate rot and require refinishing faster than in drier Ontario cities, because the lake humidity keeps the wood moist for more of the year. Composites handle moisture better than wood but can fade, mildew in damp corners, and go brittle in sustained cold. Aluminum does none of those things. It will not warp, mildew, splinter, or discolour regardless of the season. The trade-off is upfront cost. For local homeowners who are done with deck maintenance, aluminum pays for itself.
