Project Details

The lakefront deck sits at the water’s edge with a wide view across the lake and forested shoreline on both sides. The cedar decking had been recently rebuilt, and the owners wanted railing that matched the scale of the setting without closing off the view.

Black Craft-Bilt aluminum railing with a double top rail runs the full perimeter of the waterfront deck. The vertical pickets are spaced to meet building code while keeping sightlines as open as possible from a seated position. The double top rail gives the railing a more substantial profile than a single-rail system, which works well at the water’s edge where the railing reads against open sky and water.

Canadian-made aluminum holds up to what Muskoka properties go through every year. Ice movement in spring, high humidity through summer, and hard freeze-thaw through the winter months. The coating does not peel, rust, or need repainting, which matters on a lake property where maintenance weekends are in short supply.
